Iron and Tin Team Instructions
Tin teams and Ironpeople are encouraged to have one Helper* to
- Take your bike at the bike/boat transition area and return it to your car
- Take your canoe/kayak at the boat/run transition area and return it to your car
It works best if you
- leave your boat at the Stockbridge Bowl boat ramp early in the morning (there will be an area set aside for single canoes and iron kayaks)
- then the helper drives you to the start of the bike race
- the helper returns to Tanglewood and parks your car at the Tanglewood South parking lot on Hawthorne St.
- the helper walks to the Stockbridge Bowl boat ramp and waits for you to finish the bike leg
- once you have made the bike/boat transition, the helper takes the bike back to the car and then goes to Camp Mac-Kee-Nac for the boat/run transition.
- The helper then paddles the boat (on shoreline) to the Tanglewood beach where they take the boats out and go to the car
- Then up to Tanglewood to cheer you on as you finish your run!!!
You only need 1 helper at each transition (one person can do this-trust us, it works!).
*If you do not have a Helper, we will have volunteers at the transition areas to help you. There are bike racks at the bike/paddle transition area where you can lock up your bike. Volunteer helpers will take your boat from the water to the camp field where it can be picked up later.
There will be a van going from Tanglewood to the bike start at 1:30 and 2:00 to retrieve your vehicle from the Price Chopper parking lot (Thanks, Canyon Ranch!)
Bike Leg
Sticky number goes on the tube top. Tyvek number goes on the middle of your upper back. At the finish line, bike with caution down the left side of the dirt access road to the transition area which is about 30 yards down on the left. You should know before the bike start where your canoe/kayak is located.
Canoe/Kayak Leg
Sticky number goes on both sides of the middle of the canoe. Tyvek number goes on the front of the life jacket (bow paddlers life jacket). Helper may not assist you in carrying the boat to the water. At the end of the canoe/kayak leg you may beach briefly at Camp Mac-Kee-Nac on the right side of the beach for the runner to get out and for Ironpeople to hand off the canoe/kayak to your helper. Helper must wear a life jacket while paddling over to the Tanglewood Beach take-out area.*
If you use a camelback, please put number on top so we can see it.
