Bike Race Guidelines

Josh Billings Bicycle Race Guidelines

1.    Yellow line rule is in effect with the exception of downtown Great Barrington. This means that you should not cross the yellow line anywhere on the course.   Police or volunteers direct  traffic at most intersections.  Cars will be on the roads so use caution.

2.    There are two start corrals, one on the east side of Rt. 7 and one on the west side.  The west side is reserved for riders who have a valid category 1-4 USCF license for this year or who finished in the top 25 of the Josh in 2007.  They will be allowed to start the race from the front two lines.

3.    No feeding by a support person is allowed on the course.

4.    No ipods

5.    Numbers must go on top of camelbacks

6.    There will be a sweep vehicle and EMT support, but there are no repair support vehicles.

7.    Items on the bicycle need to be secure: pumps, water bottles, adornments should not be a hazard to fellow competitors.  Also, please do not litter.

8.    After handing off your wristband to your paddler, please exit the finish line area as quickly as possible.

9.    After finishing do not go in front of the fencing if you are proceeding back up the hill.  This is exceedingly dangerous and has resulted in accidents in the past.

10.  The biker does NOT wear the timing chip UNLESS the biker is also paddling (or doing iron).

Most important, please be courteous.  This race is supposed to be challenging and fun.  Aggressive and unsafe bike handling is not compatible with this goal.   Have a safe ride!
